Weekly Genealogy Picks

Weekly Genealogy Picks -- December 27 to January 2
from genealogy blogs, newspaper articles and elsewhere
  • Also in Tampa, New Years Eve, a set of twins were born on opposite sides of midnight. (Some newspapers, such as the New York Daily News have chosen the sensationalistic and grammatically incorrect headline announcing the kids were born a decade apart. They were born in separate decades, but not a decade apart.)
  • The St. Elmo Historical Society needed to raise some money, so they came up with a calender they called "Naughty, but nice." "It features 13 color shots of everybody from the city veterinarian to the local newspaper owner to a waitress with a seductive smile posing in the altogether. Strategically arranged props, ranging from an impressively sized bolt-action rifle to a golden retriever (which even appears to be smiling), cover the truly naughty bits, although readers' imaginations are given free rein." The Post Dispatch article shares a 'recreation' of the photo of the veterinarian and the golden retriever.
  • The Library of Congress and the Internet Archive have put 60,000 books online. Many of a historical or genealogical nature.
